MicroStop - Pipeline Technology Ltd


MicroStop is a miniature FlowStop system offered for pipe sizes from 1" to 3" and working up to a maximum pressure rating of 500mb. The built-in bypass to the stopple head allows for gas flow to continue uninterrupted whilst maintenance and repair activities are completed.

Previously, leaks on multi-occupancy buildings led to an automatic shut-down of the riser pipe feeding the property. Most of which would lead to a complete replacement of the riser pipe.

This left customers without hot water, being unable to cook and leaving some without heating, which resulted in them feeling very dissatisfied with their energy provider.

As a result, networks found they were constantly offering compensation to their customers. The TOTEX and OPEX costs of these types of operations, especially where new systems have been installed, have been massive.

This allows for repair work to be carried out, without needing to cut off supply. The bypass hose is available in 1" for Mod 1, 2" for Mod 2 and 3" for Mod 3 allowing the diameter of the hose to match that of the main. This prevents any decrease in flow on a low-pressure gas pipe.

The revolutionary piece of equipment has already drawn huge attention from the likes of SGN and Cadent Gas, who have both verified the capabilities of the MicroStop, and have used the MicroStop on their own projects. The MicroStop equipment provides the supplier with the ability to identify the problem area, isolate and replace the offending section of pipe whilst keeping continuity of supply to its customers.

Pipetech led an exciting project and provided on-site training to the operational teams from Cadent Gas, which demonstrated the capabilities and significant benefits of the MicroStop equipment.

The project took place on a block of flats in London. Dozens of families were at risk of having their gas supply cut off due to corrosion on the steel supply pipe. Gas to this multi-occupancy building was provided by a steel supply pipe (above ground), which transitioned to PE pipe below ground level.

The MicroStop system showed how the pipe can be repaired without cutting off the gas supply to residents. The use of this system significantly reduces the complexity of this repair task and offers the following benefits:

    The MicroStop utilises an expanding stopper mechanism, to create a 100% leak proof block, isolating the broken section of pipe.
    The bypass hose is available in differing lengths which can be joined to suit the application. The model 2 MicroStop bypass offers size for size bypass which prevents any decrease in flow rate on low pressure systems
