SGN required an “Improved PE Top Tee Cutter for use on PE Top Tees for use within the SGN gas distribution network. The design solution must be user friendly and must be supported by PE Top Tee manufacturers to confirm that no excessive forces will be applied to the fittings or pipe during PE Top Tee Cutting operations.”
After careful designing and rigorous testing, Pipetech received the letter “we are pleased to advise you that having successfully completed all testing and product evaluation, the [Top Tee Cutter] has now been granted approval”.

The existing design of Top Tee Cutter (Tee Bar) is not user friendly. It does not give good mechanical advantage and if a Top Tee is located close to the side of a trench, further excavation of the trench side is required to enable the tee Bar handle to be rotated and the top tee cut.
The development of a “long handled” Top Tee Cutter with a flexible universal joint enables work to be undertaken above the trench.
